EMI REMINDERS

EMI Due Reminders That Borrowers Notice Before the Date

Personalised WhatsApp reminders with the EMI amount and date, live balance answers from your loan system, and voice or SMS for borrowers who miss the message.

QUICK ANSWER

Smart Growth AI sends EMI reminders a few days before the due date on WhatsApp, with the borrower's name, loan reference, EMI amount and payment link. The dynamic API chatbot can answer questions like outstanding balance from your loan system. Borrowers who do not read WhatsApp get a short recorded call, with RCS and SMS as fallbacks for numbers WhatsApp cannot reach.

01

Remind before, not after

Pre-due reminders help borrowers keep enough balance in their account so the EMI clears on time.

02

Answers without a branch visit

The chatbot fetches EMI amount, due date or outstanding from your system and replies in the chat.

03

Every attempt on record

Delivery, read, reply and key-press data per borrower, available in a sheet or pushed to your LMS via API.

Most missed EMIs are avoidable

For NBFCs, microfinance teams, two-wheeler and consumer durable lenders, a large share of bounced EMIs come from borrowers who simply did not keep enough balance on the debit date. A clear reminder a few days earlier often makes the difference.

SMS alone is easy to miss, and calling every borrower is expensive. A multi-channel EMI reminder flow uses WhatsApp first, then voice and SMS for those who did not see it, and gives borrowers answers without needing to call your branch.

How the EMI reminder flow is built

  • Data from your loan system. Your loan management system sends upcoming EMIs via webhook/API, or your operations team uploads a daily sheet with borrower name, mobile, loan reference, EMI amount and due date.
  • Pre-due WhatsApp reminder. A few days before the due date, an Official WhatsApp template goes out: "Dear Ramesh, your EMI of ₹4,250 for loan ending 7781 is due on 5 November. Please keep sufficient balance in your account." A payment link can be added if you accept online payments.
  • Self-service questions. Borrowers can tap buttons like Check outstanding or Talk to us. The dynamic API chatbot calls your system and replies with live figures.
  • Voice reminder for unread messages. If the WhatsApp message is not read close to the due date, a recorded voice call can go out in the borrower's language, with press 1 to reach your customer service desk.
  • RCS and SMS fallbacks. Numbers where WhatsApp fails get an RCS card, and if that also fails, a DLT-compliant SMS.
  • Post-due follow-up. If you choose, a polite notice goes out after a missed EMI with a payment link and an easy way to reach your team.

Language and tone for borrowers

Many borrowers are more comfortable in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Marathi than in English. Voice clips and WhatsApp templates can be prepared in each language you serve, and you can run separate lists by region. Keep wording factual and respectful. Reminders that sound like threats damage trust and can conflict with lending guidelines.

Working within your rules

As a lender, you will have your own policies on calling hours, message content and customer consent. Smart Growth AI is a communication platform, so we set up templates, schedules and opt-out handling to fit the rules you work under. Opt-out requests are respected across voice, SMS, WhatsApp and RCS.

Visibility for your operations team

For every borrower, you can see which reminders were delivered and read, whether they replied, whether they pressed 1 on the voice call, and whether the EMI cleared once your system updates. Data can go to a Google Sheet or back into your loan management system via webhook/API. Your field or tele-calling team then focuses on borrowers who did not respond on any channel.

Beyond EMI reminders

The same setup can also carry:

  • Loan approval and disbursement updates
  • Document pending reminders during onboarding
  • Top-up or pre-approved loan offers to eligible customers, using the Smart Growth AI Campaign to find interested borrowers before your team calls
  • Foreclosure and NOC status updates

Reaching borrowers in smaller towns

In many smaller towns, borrowers share phones with family or use basic handsets. Voice reminders and SMS reach these customers where WhatsApp may not. Running all channels from one setup means you do not need separate vendors for each.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How many days before the due date should EMI reminders go out?

Many lenders send the first reminder three to five days before the due date and a second one a day before. The right timing depends on your borrowers and debit dates, and you can change it at any time.

Can borrowers check their outstanding amount on WhatsApp?

Yes, if your loan system has an API. The dynamic API chatbot looks up the loan reference and replies with live figures such as EMI amount, due date or outstanding balance.

Can EMI reminder calls be in regional languages?

Yes. You can record voice clips and create WhatsApp templates in each language you serve, and run separate lists by region or preferred language. Many lenders keep one clip per state so borrowers hear a familiar language.

Does this follow lending and collection guidelines?

Smart Growth AI provides the channels and automation. Your organisation's policies and regulatory requirements decide timing, wording and consent, and we set up the flows to fit them. We recommend a polite, factual tone throughout.

What if the borrower's WhatsApp number is inactive?

The flow tries RCS next and then a DLT-compliant SMS. You can also add a recorded voice reminder, so the borrower is reached on at least one channel where possible.
